The launcher

When you first open the Opera Mobile Emulator, you’re presented with the launcher app — see Figure 2. This launcher allows you to create different instances of Opera Mobile on your desktop to accurately test different phone configurations, as seen in Figure 3. Here we will discuss the different options available in the launcher.

Profiles

The launcher comes preconfigured with a series of popular phone and tablet device profiles, such as theSEMC Xperia Ray, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Nokia E63. You can then start an Opera Mobile instance using the selected profile by clicking on the Launch button.

If you want to create a new profile, select the Custom option from the profile list and set the relevant options forResolution, Pixel Density, Input and Arguments. When you're all set, select the Add button under the profile selection box, choose a name for the new profile, and save it to the list. Note that you can also tweak existing profiles via the Update button appearing below the selected profile, or delete them using the Remove button.

Screen resolution

Mobile phones and tablets come in varying shapes and sizes. The screen resolution can be changed by choosing between the different options in the Resolution dropdown menu. You can also create your own custom resolutions using the Add button, and delete the existing ones using the Remove button.

Pixel density

In the same manner as screen resolution, you can choose the pixel density — which primarily affects Opera Mobile's default zoom factor — using the dropdown menu in the Pixel Density section. As above, you can select options from the menu, add your own custom ones, and remove options as you see fit.

Input

The Input section of the launcher contains a dropdown menu with three options to choose from: Touch, Keypad andTablet. The Touch option will give you our touchscreen phone UI, whereas choosing Keypad will result in our UI for phones with only keypad input. The Tablet option enables Opera Mobile’s tablet-optimized touch UI. To learn more about the differences between these modes, see the input mode section below.

Happy News For Indian Mobile users : Now Roaming is free in India

The Indian government Thursday unveiled a new, consumer-friendly telecom
 policy, paving the way for free roaming and nation-wide mobile number
portability. !!"Affordability of the consumers is the core of our policy," Communications Minister Kapil Sibal said after a cabinet meeting chaired by
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh approved the National Telecom Policy (NTP)
2012.

 "Target is one nation full mobile number portability and work towards
 one nation free roaming." The minister said the new policy will replace the
older regulation which has been in effect for more than 12 years now and
provide a predictable and stable policy regime for a period of nearly 10 years.

The policy envisions providing a "secure, reliable, affordable and high quality converged telecommunication services anytime, anywhere for an accelerated inclusive socio-economic development". The policy will be operationalised by bringing out detailed guidelines, as may be considered appropriate, from time
to time. It envisages increasing penetration of telecom services in rural area
from current level of around 39 to 70 percent by 2017 and 100 per cent by the
ear 2020.

 Broadband speed has also been increased to minimum of 2 megabit
per second (mbps). This change will come into force with immediate effect.
 Also, under the new policy, licences will be delinked from spectrum which have been bundled with the licences so far

As far as telecom operators and mobile operators are concerned, separate liceneses for different parts of the country will not be required - a single one will be more than enough. The following norms have been brought forth in the policy:

• Increase rural teledensity from the current level of around 39 to 70 by the year 2017 and 100 by the year 2020
• Repositioning of Mobile phone- as an instrument of empowerment
• Broadband –“'Broadband For All” at a minimum download speed of 2 Mbps
• Domestic Manufacturing- Making India a global hub
• Convergence of Network, Services and Devices
• Liberalisation of Spectrum - any Service in any Technology
• Simplification of Licensing regime- Unified Licensing, delinking of Spectrum from License, Online real time submission and processing
• Consumer Focus - Achieve One Nation - Full Mobile Number Portability and work towards One Nation - Free Roaming
• Resale of Services
• Voice over Internet Protocol
• Cloud Computing, Next Generation Network including IPV6
